At last, we have reached a time when climate change and protecting the oceans is at the top people’s priority list.
Tallis has recently announced our support for an exciting new marine project in Indonesia overseen by Conservation International. The project is managed by Yayasan Ecology, a local non-profit foundation and the company behind two eco-resorts in the Archipelago.
The Riau Archipelago is situated in one of the busiest shipping channels in the world, the islands are also home to bauxite mines which open up the surface of the earth leading to silt run-off into the ocean. The shipping pollution and siltation, together with over-fishing, have a dramatic effect on coral reefs and sea-life and therefore the welfare and livelihoods of local communities. We want to help change that!
The conservation project we are supporting not only plays a vital role in protecting the environment but will also hopefully yield insights into how to mitigate the effects of climate change on coral reefs. Initial surveys seem to show that the corals of the Riau Archipelago are doing well in the face of rising sea temperatures - could they one day be a coral nursery for a warmer future?
This is an incredible cause and it needs financial support. Because of this, for every Tallis fish leather product purchased, we will donate 1 Swiss franc to the project.
So enjoy your fish leather accessory all the more, knowing that not only is it sustainably sourced, but it also helps in the on-going fight to protect the oceans.
