Cupple Up...With The Marine Conservation Society

Our friends at 'Cupple' (The re-usable, all-in-one cup and bottle) talk to us about the impact of plastic waste on the environment and why they decided to support The Marine Conservation Society.

Single use plastic, even the flimsiest plastic bag, takes between 50 and 500 years to breakdown. It never fully disappears, just becomes smaller and smaller, ending up as micro-plastic, found in increasing volume in the oceans.

The Marine Conservation Society is a UK-wide community of ocean lovers. It provides a home and starting point for everyone who cares about the health of our oceans, and shares the MSC vision of a sea full of life, where nature flourishes and people thrive.

The MSC offers advice for those wanting to take action; organises campaigns and activities around the UK coastline to help improve the quality of our seas; contributes to international research and gathers scientific data to understand what is happening; lobbies governments and organisations to ensure ocean friendly policies are adopted, and provides information about how we can all help.

At Cupple, we wanted to help improve the environment, not only through offering a convenient plastic-free way to drink cold water and hot drinks whilst out and about, but also contributing to reducing the single-use plastic which is littered everywhere across the land and in the seas.

So, from the outset, we made the decision to become a member of 1% for the Planet, and have committed to donating 1% of all sales revenue per annum to support the Marine Conservation Society in the brilliant work they do to restore and champion our oceans.

Easy ways for each of us to help reduce plastic waste in the seas:

- Always take your litter home with you after a trip to the beach

- Join one of the hundreds of beach cleans which take place around the country

- Support organisations and campaigns to raise awareness such as those led by MCS

- Shop consciously, and change our habits so we can avoid single use plastic wherever possible
